The Boston Cecilia opens its 144th season with two pieces for chamber choir and organ, Maurice Duruflé’s luminous Requiem and Zoltan Kodály’s challenging and exciting Missa Brevis. The concert features organist Kevin Neel in pieces that re-imagine the traditional mass and requiem texts. Known for his exacting and detailed revising, Parisian composer and celebrated organist, Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986) wrote only fourteen works, mostly for organ, chorus, and orchestra. His Requiem is his best-known work and has been loved consistently by audiences and choruses worldwide.
